Installing Google Play Store on Device:
Pre-Requisits
- ES File Explorer - File explorer app that will allow you to access apps on the internal memory and install .apk (android package) files. This can be downloaded from the Amazon App Store for free.
- Make sure the Tablet allows installation of 3rd party apps by turning on "Settings>Security>Apps from Unknown Sources"
- Google Account - Sign up for a free Google Account. Google creditials are required to access the Play Store.
Install Steps Overview
Easy Method Without Root- Open ES File Explorer app.
- Click on the menu in upper left corner, and click on "Add"
- In promp box, for Path, enter http://dwl.gadgetsxray.com and give it a name like "Google Play" and Add the new source.
- Once the source is added, open the menu again, and scroll down until you find the "Google Play" entry that you added and select it. This will open a simple web page with 4 links on it.
- Click on the first link "Google Apps", which will open a page with 4 files on it. Click each file to download them one at a time to the Tablet. Once the last one is downloaded, click on the "Open Folder" in the prompt that you are shown. If not, you can find the files in the Tablets Downloads directory.
- You should see 4 apk files that you downloaded. Click to install them in this order:
- Google Services Framework
- Google Play Services
- Google Account Manager
- Google Play Store
- Once Installed, you should have a "Google Settings" and a "Play Store" icon in the apps list.
- Open up the Play Store, and either enter your Google account creditials.
Installing XBMC/Kodi on Device:
Pre-Requisites
NOTE: Rooting the FireTV is not required to run Kodi on the device, but if rooting is desired, root the "FireTV" first and verify root is setup and working properly before continuing. Some newer versions of the FireTV OS cannot be rooted, and some versions require special procedures to keep the device from auto updating the OS on first power on. If root is desired, do not connect device to internet until all instructions are read and followed first!You will need to download the following apps to your PC to use to load Kodi and setup the FireTV to use Kodi optimally.
- Latest Version of SPMC or alternative version of Kodi.
- FireTV Utility: Software for your PC that connects to FireTV and helps with app "side-loading" and install. Also used for rooting FireTV.
- adbFire: Optional software that also helps with side-loading apps and other utilities.
- AutoPilot App: FireTV app that allows another app to be automatically launched at boot up (for autoloading of Kodi when FireTV boots)
- Llama App: FireTV (android) app that allows automated actions to be performed. In this case, it is used to "highjack" the launching of an unused FireTV app to start the Kodi app instead, as the Kodi app will not directly show up in the Main Menu list of apps installed on the FireTV.
Install Steps Overview
Note: Full Install instructions for Kodi is available on the official Kodi Wiki Site- If not rooting the FTV, then power on and connect to network by setting up "Settings:System:Network", and allow update to run to update to latest FTV software.
- In the FTV "Settings:System:Developer Options" and set options "ADB Debugging=On" and "Apps from Unknown Sources=On"
- Use FireTV Utility app to side-load KodiMediaCenter
- Download IkonoTV app (or ClassicTV app) from Amazon app store using FireTV to give you an app for launching Kodi.
- Use FireTV Utility to install (side-load) Llama app, and setup Llama to Hijack the IkonoTV or ClassicTV app to launch Kodi instead of the native app.
- Use FireTV Utility to change icon of IkonoTV app (or ClassicTV app) to Kodi icon (if desired). When sending Llama config file, you will need to start the Llama app on the FTV and import new settings after sending from FireTV Utility.
- Use FireTV Utility to side-load AutoPilot App and setup app to launch into Kodi after boot automatically.

Other Notes
- Finding FireTV apps that have been side-loaded to the device, goto "Settings:Applications:Manage All Installed Applications" menu. Side-loaded apps that are not from the official Amazon App Store are not visible in main menu.
