Kodi Library Setup:
Library Configuration Steps Overview
Configuring PC Up for Library storage on a Network Share
- Create Library Folder on PC drive.
- Create sub-folders for "TVShows" and "Movies" (if desired, create additional folders for Pictures, Music and others)
- Set Sharing for root Library Folder to on. Set permissions to "Everyone" and allow Full Control, Change, and Read options
- Set Security settings for root Library Folder to allow all permissions for Everyone.
- Set network Workgroup settings for home network sharing (so Kodi can find and browse network PC's with shared folders) - this setting can be found in Settings under "SMB" (advanced mode).
- Reboot to change network settings
- Add Source in "Settings:File Manager" and select SMB network share and navigate to network PC and shared root folder
- Once share is added as source, navigate to shared folder in File Manager, and goto subfolders and use context menu to "Set Media Type" for each subfolder (you may have to select change type first). This will give a popup that allows you to set media types to TVShows, Movies, Music, Pictures, etc...
- If media already exists in Network share folders when setting the media type, tell Kodi to scan the folder immediately, and Kodi should pull in the existing files and create main menu items for these media types. They will not import until the file types have been set, so if you don't see them, make sure the previous step is done correctly.
- Setup Library location for each addon app individually so each addon knows where to save files when added to the library.
- Example: in Genesis, start and goto "Tools:General" to get the Genesis settings.
- Goto Library Tab, and set the TV Shows and Movies location to the shared network locations.
- Goto Downloads Tab, and set the TV Shows and Movies location to the shared network locations.
